Danske Spil Launches New Spil Med Omtanke Website to Prevent Gambling Problems
Are you curious about whether you play too much, or do you think there are “safe” matches at Oddset? Danske Spil answers this and at the same time dispels a large number of myths about gambling in “Spil med omtanke”, which is Danske Spil’s new prevention site, which can be found at www.danskespil.dk/spil-med-omtanke.
“Play with care” is part of Danske Spil’s broad efforts for healthy gambling habits and has been created in close collaboration with the Research Clinic for Gambling at Aarhus University Hospital.
“It is important to us that our efforts for healthy gambling habits are based as much as possible on evidence and research, and therefore I am happy that we can invite our customers and other interested Danes to our new prevention site. With the “Spil med omtanke” site, we have made an effort to create a living platform where, with interactive videos, podcasts and other content, created together with the Research Clinic for Gambling, we hope to make users want to explore, get new knowledge and a better understanding of one’s own gambling behaviour,” says Kate Jacquerot, legal director at Danske Spil, responsible for e.g. the effort for healthy gambling habits, and specifies:
“You can, for example, meet our odds setter Peter, who talks about the advantage the “house” has over the players, just as Marcus Kondrup, who is now a gambling addict, talks about his personal, expensive experiences. And it is true enough that you generally cannot win over the house – this is, among other things, therefore, we can give a profit back to the community every year. Ultimately, we want as many people as possible to visit the universe, learn about good tips for healthy gaming behavior, typical risk signs and complete the self-test,” continues Kate Jacquerot.
Built on knowledge of what works
The new website has been created in collaboration between different disciplines. The research clinic for Ludomania contributes knowledge from psychologists, treatment and research, and in addition the platform was created with the help of, among other things, film people, a UX designer, a technoanthropologist and communication people. In order to make the videos on the site alive and relevant, e.g. a game-free gambling addict, just as several game experts from Danske Spil talk about the mechanics of the games.
“Based on knowledge from gambling addiction treatment and research, we have helped to create the platform and develop large parts of the content. It has been an exciting challenge to have to communicate in an easy-to-understand, present and different way, so that those to whom the platform is addressed, can be inspired as much as possible and take the content to heart,” says Thomas Marcussen, who is clinic manager and clinical psychologist at the Research Clinic, and explains;
“An example of something completely new and innovative is an interactive test where users can find out if there are risks associated with the way they play. It is innovative because it is a video-based solution where the user is taken by the hand by a psychologist through the test, which is personalized based on the user’s answers. At the same time, the test gives an indication of where gambling behavior lies in relation to the norm in Denmark, and it is an example of an element we have included in the test, because the research shows that comparison with the norm can have a preventive effect.”
The Research Clinic for Gambling has developed and quality-assured essential elements of the content such as text, the self-test and worth-knowing videos. All content and tools on the platform are Danske Spil’s responsibility.
