Macau GGR Hits New Post-Pandemic High in May at MOP20.2 Billion
MACAU, SAR (June 1, 2024) — Gross gaming revenue (GGR) reached MOP20.19 billion (USD2.52 billion) in May, marking a 29.7 percent year-on-year increase, according to data released by the gaming watchdog on Saturday.
The Macau News Agency (MNA) reported this figure represents a new post-pandemic high and accounts for 88 percent of the GGR recorded in December 2019, the last full pre-COVID month.
Compared to April, last month’s revenue saw an 8.9 percent rise. The January-to-May gaming revenue now stands at MOP96 billion (USD12 billion), 47.9 percent more than in the first five months of 2023, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau indicated.
The government has predicted a full-year GGR of MOP216 billion in 2024.
May benefited from an influx of visitors, mostly from the mainland, during the Labour Day Golden Week, as well as from the Buddha’s Birthday public holiday on May 15, which brought an additional influx of tourists and customers, namely from Hong Kong.
