Minister Opens First Lottery Sales Outlet at Colombo Fort Railway Station
COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (June 1, 2024) — Under the programme to set up the lottery selling stalls at the railway stations with the intention of expanding the sale of lotteries of the Development Lotteries Board (DLB), a lottery sales stall set up at the Colombo Fort Railway station premises was opened under the patronage of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana yesterday (16).
This paves the way for customers to buy lottery tickets easily while at the station premises.
Sri Lanka’s leading media services provider ‘Daily News‘ reported the Minister Speaking on the occasion said the DLB is an institution which creates millionaires through the daily drawings of lotteries and makes a huge contribution to the President’s Fund and Mahapola Scholarship Fund. Setting up of stalls to sell lotteries at the station premises helps not only to make the customers winners, but also gives them an opportunity to support the needy people and the university students through such funds, which is a special factor to be highlighted.
DLB Chairman Ajith Gunarathne Naragala said that it has been the intention of the DLB to expand this programme to other railway stations and the bus stands across the country in the coming months.
DLB Assistant General Manager Chinthaka Alaiperruma, Deputy Inspector General of Police Jagath Chandrakumara, President of the Traders’ Association of Kiribathgoda, P.D. Thilakasiri, Business Promotion Officers of the DLB, official from the Railway Department, the business community and others were also present.
