National Lottery App and Website Goes Down Across UK Amid Global IT Outage
Sunday July 21, 2024 — According to local media reports the National Lottery experienced significant disruptions to its app and website due to a global IT outage, leaving many users unable to access results or purchase tickets ahead of the Saturday night draw. Reports of issues began around 8pm on Friday and peaked on Saturday morning with over 2,800 complaints on Downdetector.
The outage appears linked to a broader tech disruption caused by a botched software update that affected Microsoft systems, resulting in flight delays, cancellations, and impacts on hospitals, banks, supermarkets, and businesses worldwide.
Despite claims from the National Lottery that services were restored by Saturday morning, many users continued to report problems accessing the app and website. National Lottery operator Allwyn confirmed the website and app were back online and that retail services were unaffected, while their technical teams continued to monitor and investigate the outage.
IT experts have warned that it could take weeks for systems to fully recover from the global outage.
