PA Gaming Control Board Reports September Revenue

HARRISBURG, PA:   The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) reported today that the combined total revenue generated from all forms of gaming, along with fantasy contests, during September 2024 was $505,879,339, an increase of 6.17% compared to revenue generated in September 2023.

Sources of gaming revenue regulated by the PGCB include slot machines, table games, internet gaming, sports wagering, fantasy contests and video gaming terminals (VGTs). The PGCB has posted separate reports for these types of gaming on its website, https://gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov/.

Total tax revenue generated collectively through all forms of gaming and fantasy contests was $211,150,316* during September 2024.

Slot Machine Revenue

September’s revenue from the play of retail slot machines was $196,959,217, a 1.48% decrease in revenue when compared to the $199,917,301 generated in September 2023.

The number of slot machines in operation in September 2024 was 24,558 compared to 25,124 at the casinos in September 2023.

Tax revenue from the play of slots machines in September 2024 was $99,277,788*.

Retail Table Games Revenue

Retail Table Games revenue for September 2024 was $73,474,836, a decrease of 2.33% from September 2023 when revenue was $75,227,736.

Total tax revenue from table games play during September 2024 was $12,142,048*.

Internet Casino-Type Gaming (iGaming) Revenue

Casino games offered online generated monthly gross revenue totaling $176,700,937 during September 2024 compared to $159,490,505 in September 2023, an increase of 10.79%.

Tax revenue generated from internet gaming play during September 2024 was $78,433,149*.

Sports Wagering Revenue

September 2024, total sports wagering handle was $811,283,985, or 11.71% above the September 2023 total of $726,259,712.

At the same time, the taxable revenue figure for September 2024 was $53,532,012, or 46.13% higher when compared to September 2023, when taxable revenue was $36,633,084.

Tax revenue generated from sports wagering during September 2024 was $19,271,525*.

Video Gaming Terminals

Total adjusted revenue for September 2024 for video gaming terminals (VGTs) was $3,362,043, or 3.59% higher than September 2023 when revenue was $3,245,541. By the end of September 2024, all VGT Operators offered the maximum permitted five machines at 74 qualified truck stop establishments, compared to five machines at 69 establishments at this time last year.

Tax revenue collected from the play of VGTs in September 2024 was $1,748,262*.

Fantasy Contests

Fantasy Contests revenue was $1,850,294 in September 2024, a decrease of 4.83% over September 2023, when revenue was $1,944,265.

Tax revenue collected from the play of Fantasy Contests in September 2024 was $277,544*.

About the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is tasked to oversee all aspects of gambling involving 17 land-based casinos, online casino games, retail and online sports wagering, and Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs) at qualified truck stops, along with the regulation of online fantasy sports contests.

The land-based casino industry in Pennsylvania consists of six racetrack (Category 1) casinos, five stand-alone (Category 2) casinos, two resort (Category 3) casinos and four mini-casinos (Category 4).  A significant job generator in the Commonwealth, casinos and the other types of Board-regulated gaming generated $2.54 billion in tax revenue in Fiscal Year 2023/24.
