Sugar Land Retailer Receives $1 Million Bonus for Selling Jackpot-Winning Mega Millions® Ticket

SUGAR LAND, Texas (October 23, 2024) — A lottery retailer in Sugar Land was presented with a $1 million ceremonial check on Tuesday, Oct. 22 for selling a Mega Millions® jackpot-winning ticket worth an estimated annuitized $800 million for the Sept. 10 drawing. The Murphy USA 8848, located at 7520 Highway 90A, received payment under the Texas Lottery’s retailer bonus program. Representatives from the Texas Lottery and Murphy USA were in attendance to mark the celebration.

On Oct. 3, the Texas Lottery announced the Sept. 10 Mega Millions jackpot prize had been claimed by The Sol Living Trust, of Sugar Land. The cash value option was selected at the time of purchase and the claimant received $409,297,624 before taxes – the largest prize ever paid to a single Texas Lottery® player. The jackpot-winning Quick Pick ticket matched all of the numbers drawn (1-2-16-24-66, Mega Ball 6).

Murphy USA stores across Texas sell and redeem Texas Lottery® tickets, including popular games such as Mega Millions, Powerball®, Lotto Texas®, All or Nothing™, Texas Two Step®, Pick 3™, Daily 4™, Cash Five® and scratch ticket games.

Mega Millions is played by choosing five numbers from a field of 70 and one Mega Ball number from the second field of 25 numbers. To win the Mega Millions jackpot, players must match all six numbers drawn including the Mega Ball. Players matching fewer numbers may not win the jackpot, but still walk away winners. Mega Millions currently offers a $20 million starting jackpot and a second-tier (Match 5+0) prize of $1 million. By choosing the Megaplier® feature for $1 more per Play, players can multiply their non-jackpot winnings by two, three, four or five times, winning as much as $5 million. Drawings are broadcast each Tuesday and Friday at 10:12 p.m. CT. Retailers that sell a jackpot-winning Mega Millions or Powerball ticket may be eligible to receive up to a $1 million retailer bonus through the Texas Lottery’s retailer bonus program.
