PA Gaming Control Board Reports October Revenue

HARRISBURG, PA:   The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) reported today that the combined total revenue generated from all forms of gaming, along with fantasy contests, during October 2024 was $496,585,461, an increase of 2.81% compared to revenue generated in October 2023.

Sources of gaming revenue regulated by the PGCB include slot machines, table games, internet gaming, sports wagering, fantasy contests and video gaming terminals (VGTs). The PGCB has posted separate reports for these types of gaming on its website, https://gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov/.

Total tax revenue generated collectively through all forms of gaming and fantasy contests was $209,157,522* during October 2024.

Slot Machine Revenue

October’s revenue from the play of retail slot machines was $200,625,182, a 4.21% increase in revenue when compared to the $192,519,568 generated in October 2023.

The number of slot machines in operation in October 2024 was 24,485 compared to 24,794 at the casinos in October 2023.

Tax revenue from the play of slot machines in October 2024 was $101,088,035*.

Retail Table Games Revenue

Retail Table Games revenue for October 2024 was $73,900,826, a decrease of 9.28% from October 2023 when revenue was $81,458,654.

Total tax revenue from table games play during October 2024 was $12,288,059*.

Internet Casino-Type Gaming (iGaming) Revenue

Casino games offered online generated monthly gross revenue totaling $189,027,924 during October 2024 compared to $154,818,943 in October 2023, an increase of 22.10%.

Sports Wagering Revenue

October 2024 total sports wagering handle was $858,148,994, 3.52% above the October 2023 total of $829,002,595.

At the same time, the taxable revenue figure for October 2024 was $27,373,043, or 43.15% lower when compared to October 2023, when taxable revenue was $48,150,055.

Tax revenue generated from sports wagering during October 2024 was $9,854,295*.

Video Gaming Terminals

Total adjusted revenue for October 2024 for video gaming terminals (VGTs) was $3,556,562, 4.42% higher than October 2023 when revenue was $3,406,170. By the end of October 2024, all VGT Operators offered the maximum permitted five machines at each of the 74 qualified truck stop establishments, compared to five machines at each of the 71 establishments at this time last year.

Tax revenue collected from the play of VGTs in October 2024 was $1,849,412*.

Fantasy Contests

Fantasy Contests revenue was $2,101,924 in October 2024, a decrease of 20.77% over October 2023, when revenue was $2,652,804.

Tax revenue collected from the play of Fantasy Contests in October 2024 was $315,289*.

About the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is tasked to oversee all aspects of gambling involving 17 land-based casinos, online casino games, retail and online sports wagering, and Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs) at qualified truck stops, along with the regulation of online fantasy sports contests.

The land-based casino industry in Pennsylvania consists of six racetrack (Category 1) casinos, five stand-alone (Category 2) casinos, two resort (Category 3) casinos and four mini-casinos (Category 4).  A significant job generator in the Commonwealth, casinos and the other types of Board-regulated gaming generated $2.54 billion in tax revenue in Fiscal Year 2023/24.
