PA Gaming Control Board Releases Annual Diversity Report on Casino Industry
HARRISBURG, PA (September 28, 2023) — The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board today released its 16th Annual Diversity Report providing a description of each casino’s activities related to the implementation of their diversity plans and the action taken by the entities to achieve the Commonwealth’s goal of enhanced representation of diverse groups in the gaming industry.
Key figures included in the Diversity Report show:
- Pennsylvania’s 17 casinos collectively employed 15,461 persons at the close of the state fiscal year of 2022-2023;
- 13,863 of those employees (90%) are residents of Pennsylvania;
- 41% of those employed are racial minorities while 42% are female; and,
- Casinos spent $838,378,181 in 2022-2023 with other businesses for construction and non-construction expenses.

About the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is tasked to oversee all aspects of gambling involving 17 land-based casinos, online casino games, retail and online sports wagering, and Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs) at qualified truck stops, along with the regulation of online fantasy sports contests.
The land-based casino industry in Pennsylvania consists of six racetrack (Category 1) casinos, five stand-alone (Category 2) casinos, two resort (Category 3) casinos and four mini-casinos (Category 4). A significant job generator in the Commonwealth, casinos and the other types of Board-regulated gaming generated over $2.3 billion in tax revenue during the 2022/2023 State Fiscal Year.
