Bogotá DC, Colombia (May 2, 2024) — As part of the strategy to combat illegality, Coljuegos destroyed a total of 1,491 elements of illegal games of luck and chance that had been seized since 2021 and that were housed in the municipality of Yumbo, Valle del Cauca.
The president of Coljuegos, Marco Emilio Hincapié, reported that the destroyed items were valued at close to $200 million and were used in illegal gambling in the Valley and in municipalities of the Coffee Region such as Armenia, Dosquebradas and Manizales.
“We continue to strike illegality with forceful actions. We are telling those who operate games of luck and chance without a concession contract to comply with the law and contribute to the health of Colombians ,” said Hincapié.
During the destruction of the items, $10 million in coins and bills were found inside the electronic slot machines . These resources are constituted as a judicial deposit in the name of Coljuegos and will be transferred to health.
Thus, among the destroyed materials were 306 electronic slot machines, 538 bingo elements and 66 sports betting modules .
On the other hand, the president of Coljuegos reiterated that the entity is implementing the program called “MET de la paz”, through which small owners of electronic slot machines are sought to form companies and obtain the respective permits to operate games of chance. and chance .
“We are providing all the facilities to those who do want to be legal. On the other hand, we will continue to be implacable with those who insist on operating without authorization and without providing resources for health ,” said the president.
It is worth mentioning that illegal gambling organizations in Colombian territory are failing to pay the State around $1.5 billion annually for exploitation rights , resources that could be used for the health of low-income citizens.
