Risk Analyses Still Often Insufficient: Ksa Issues Four Warnings

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (August 1, 2024) — The Netherlands Gambling Authority (Ksa) noted earlier this year that providers deal with their obligations in the context of preventing match-fixing in different ways. In response to this, the Ksa conducted a follow-up investigation. This revealed that the analyses that providers must perform in many cases do not yet meet the legal requirements. The Ksa has issued four warnings for this.

Following a signal about possible match-fixing risks, the Ksa launched a market-wide investigation in 2023. This resulted in extensive guidance at the beginning of 2024, which the Ksa sent by letter to the current providers of online sports betting. The Ksa recently conducted a targeted follow-up investigation. For this purpose, data was requested from various license holders about risk analyses on a specific match in a foreign competition. In four cases, the associated analysis appeared not to have been carried out correctly and/or not interpreted correctly. The Ksa issued a warning to all four providers where this was the case. In the future, the Ksa will continue to request random analyses from providers to check whether the legal requirements are being met.
