It is Important for Licensees to Apply for a Renewed Gaming License Before the License Expires
SWEDEN (February 21, 2023) — When the Swedish gaming market was reregulated, a licensing system was introduced that came into force on 1 January 2019. This means that many 5-year licenses expire on 31 December this year. Those licensees who wish to continue to provide games in Sweden must apply for a renewed license in time before the license expires.
It is important to apply in time
If an application is received no later than four months before the license expires, the existing license will continue to apply until the Gambling Inspectorate decides on the new application.
If the application for a renewed license is submitted less than four months before the license period expires, it may mean that the license holder may not provide the playing time between the time the existing license has expired and until the Gambling Inspectorate decides on the new application. Providing games without a valid license is not allowed.
For a license that, for example, expires on 31 December this year, an application for a renewed license should be received by 1 September at the latest.
The Swedish Gaming Authority will return with more detailed information about the upcoming application process and what is important for license holders to consider.
