China’s January National Lottery Sales Up 7.8% Year-on-Year
1. National lottery sales
In January, a total of 33.223 billion yuan of lottery tickets were sold across the country [1], a year-on-year increase of 2.402 billion yuan or 7.8%. Among them, the sales of welfare lottery institutions were 10.841 billion yuan, a decrease of 3.138 billion yuan or 22.4% year-on-year; the sales of sports lottery institutions were 22.382 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.541 billion yuan or 32.9%. The main reason is that lottery sales decreased during the Spring Festival break [2] , but at the same time, due to the impact of the World Cup football match at the end of last year, sports guessing lottery sales increased significantly compared with the same period last year.
2. Lottery sales by type
In January, the sales of Lotto digital lottery tickets were 9.683 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 3.182 billion yuan, a decrease of 24.7%; the sales of guessing lottery tickets were 15.455 billion yuan, an increase of 7.211 billion yuan, an increase of 87.5%; A year-on-year decrease of 1.342 billion yuan, a decrease of 17.5%; Keno lottery sales of 1.773 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 285 million yuan, a decrease of 13.9%. In January, the sales of digital lottery, guessing, instant and keno lottery tickets accounted for 29.2%, 46.5%, 19.0% and 5.3% of the total lottery sales respectively, and video lottery sales accounted for less than 0.1% .
3. Lottery sales by region
In January, compared with the same period last year, lottery sales in 17 provinces across the country increased. Among them, Jiangsu, Shaanxi and Shandong increased the most, with year-on-year increases of 468 million yuan, 442 million yuan and 344 million yuan respectively.
Lottery organizations at all levels should closely track and analyze new situations and new problems, effectively strengthen lottery distribution and sales, and ensure the smooth operation of the market. Financial departments at all levels should further strengthen lottery supervision, actively create a favorable external environment, maintain market order, and promote the sustainable and healthy development of the lottery industry.
