The Swedish Gaming Authority Has Granted the First Three Licenses for Gaming Software
Strängnäs, Sweden (March 17, 2023) — The first three licenses for gaming software have now been granted and the companies in question have all received licenses for five years, which will start on July 1, 2023.
As of July 1, license requirements for gaming software will be introduced. Applications are accepted from March 1, and around 60 applications have already been received.
The decision to introduce licensing requirements for game software was made by the Riksdag at the end of November last year. The purpose of introducing the requirement is to increase channelling and thereby discourage illegal gambling.
Unlicensed game operators must not be able to use suppliers who manufacture, provide, install and/or change game software for game operators who have a license in Sweden.
In our searchable register, in the License type/authorization field, you can enter “Game software” to bring up those licensed from July 1.
