Swedish Government Announce New Proposal for Measures to Ensure a Healthy and Safe Gaming Market
Strängnäs, Sweden (December 20, 2022) — Rogue gaming companies should not be able to lure people into addiction and criminals should not be able to make money from match-fixing. Therefore, on December 15, 2022, the government submitted a bill to the Riksdag with proposals aimed at excluding illegal players from the Swedish gaming market and countering match-fixing.
The government proposes, among other things:
- This an opportunity for the government to decide what information about payment mediation payment service providers must provide in order to create a more effective system for blocking payments to unlicensed gambling
- An opportunity for the Gambling Authority to buy online gambling services under hidden identity, so-called test purchases, to check that the Gambling Act’s license requirements and promotion prohibitions are complied with
- Expanded opportunities for betting companies and sports associations to process personal data to counter match-fixing
- An obligation for gambling companies to hand over information to the Police Authority that is needed for an investigation into crimes in connection with gambling
